How to put up an awning on a house.
This awning has been hanging since way before we moved in four and a half years ago but it wasn t really on my top priority list of things to change up until now.
We re ready to mount the canopy to the house.
Make sure you have at least 2 people for this installation.
Using machine screws lock the back trim to the mounting trim.
Directly above the window or door opening there will be a header designed to span the entire casing carrying the load across and distributing it to another pair of axial studs at the edges of the frame.
You ll need to have a clear span with no lighting fixtures vents downspouts or other obstructions.
Determine the location and height you want for your awning and mark this with the felt marking pen on the outside wall of your house.
Keep in mind that a retractable awning weighs in the area of 7 to 10 pounds per foot so you will need to securely install the mounting brackets to support that weight.

Installing an awning is a great way to enjoy the outdoors on hot a day.
Awnings can provide shade that is up to 20 degrees lower than the direct sun.
Though there are chips here and there on it from over the years i think for the money i spent on supplies to give it a facelift it was worth every penny.
But they can be tricky to install.
The additional shade from an awning will also help keep your home cooler lowering home energy costs.
Attach the hardware through the brackets and over the awning bar to hold it in place.
Attach support arms to camel back brackets.
Fasten the awning bar to the brackets.
It will stay locked in the mounting channel.
These will attach to the house after initial adjustments.
Make sure the hardware you use is tight and that your awning does not wiggle around.
Mount top trim in channel of the mounting bracket and allow the awning to hang.
Finding the studs.
Using a stud finder locate the full left to right width of the header and axial studs.
Evaluate the surface where you plan to install your awning.

Mount camel back brackets to the house ensuring that the screws penetrate the sheathing.
