Use your craft knife to cut a slit in the felt overhang at the apex of the roof then fold the felt down there and nail securely at 10cm intervals along the gable.
How to re felt an octagonal shed roof.
For each piece of felt tension across the roof and secure down the edge using 10 x 10mm felt nails evenly space.
Start by measuring the length and width of one side of the roof in.
The finishing brass finial was cobbled together from a doorknob and the base of a discarded brass vase.
Calculate the area of your roof by combining the area of each surface.
As before tack it in place then add more clouts between the tacking.
Installation can be as simple as removing the previous shed roof substrate and the fixings that accompany it simply roll out the felt to the length and fix into place with nails.
You can t have too many nails holding your felt down a loose edge will eventually rip if it s caught by a strong wind.
The existing fascia barge boards will be taken off and the old felt removed.
Roll back first felt piece.
You can then hide the folded over roofing felt with the use of fascia boards.
Add about 2 inches 5 cm to each of your measurements before calculating the area.
New fascia barge boards can also be supplied if required.
Once you ve done this you re done.
The original fascia barge boards will then be refitted.
I used a plant pot to cover the finial and then felted it over.
You can then re attach fascia boards to keep your shed looking smart by hiding the folded over roofing felt at each gable end.
This will give you extra felt to hang over.
I positioned the cross members to coincide with the plywood roofing pieces.
If necessary trim of any excess felt along the bottom edge.
The rest of the roof was fairly standard dpc plywood roofing felt then asphalt shingles.
Now back onto the rood of the shed and nail down the overlapping edges of the felt.
When installing felt correctly on a shed roof you can achieve a waterproof membrane that fits seamlessly with the surroundings or stands out dependent on the colour of felt you choose.
