Hi my name is howard this is my first time using the forum.
How to remove ice shield from roof.
Removing ice and water shield for re roof.
Some work better removing the bulk of the shingles first leaving those who stick badly then peeling the ice shield off diagonally from one corner one or better two or three people pulling being careful not to back off the roof and one other person going along on the exposed surface with along handled driveway ice scraper like a mutt but sharpened breaking loose the places it sticks to the sheathing.
Sometimes shingles come off the ice shield better when it is cool.
However remember to be conscious of the weather as it can be more difficult to cover up lower sections of roof water flows down hill.
I had a roof that was stripped and re shingled 22 years ago 1989.
Unless you hate future roofers that you don t even know yet do not cover the entire deck with iws.
Removing ice and watershield i wouldn t remove the shield if anything i d supplement it possibly by going over it.
Sometimes shingles come off the ice shield better when it is hot.
With that said i m pulling back a portion of my roof to tie a new roof into.
Ice and water shield re roof i was told by i w manufacture that u can only have 2 layers then u need to remove the plywood and start over.
In that case tear off the bottom ice shielded portion of the roof before the shingles heat up and stick and stick together.
Good luck getting the shingles off the i w.
Start early in the morn and hurry up before the sun hit it.
It s a fairly low slope roof 2 1 2 12 pitch with a southern exposure and it takes a real beating from the sun.
Open to any and all suggestions thanks.
It is a 4 year old roof with the ice and water shield on structural insulated panels outer layer is 3 4 osb so we are not able to simply replace the plywood we need to remove the i w and build a new roof system 8 above the existing one for circulation reasons.
