The shingles will roll up like a ball in front of the fork. In the photo below the target shingle perhaps it needs replacement due to damage from a falling object or roof. Remove the shingles in layers as you work your way up the roof. The first step obviously requires the removal of the nails holding that shingle to the roof deck.

To access the nails. Push the shingles down to the roof jacks. This will keep the area clean as you progress toward the center of the roof. Continue tearing off the shingles and underlayment until you reach the roof jacks then start over at the top of the roof.

Using your garden hose on low pressure. You will want to start from one side of your roof and work your way to the other side. Follow the store bought cleaner s instructions for how long you should leave the cleaner on the moss. Remove shingles in a 2 to 3 ft wide section as you work down the roof.

Ensure that as you remove the shingles you are taking them from the roof and into the dumpster. Safely set up your ladder near the moss.
