How to remove sticky duct tape residue from aluminium siding.

It would either take the paint all the way off or dull down the paint. First test a safe area for compatibility before possibly damaging a visible area of the siding. To remove duct tape residue try using the edge of a credit card. During a window restoration project i used duck tape to hold plastic sheeting to the aluminum siding to protect the bare wood of the windows during painting.

It will soften the adhesive and allow for easier removal. Hold the edge parallel to the surface you are working on and slowly scrape up the tape residue with it. Just scrub the residue with the damp cloth using circular motions until it comes off. Use a heat gun if there is a thick layer of tape on the siding.

Careful not to get the siding too hot or you could strip the paint off the siding. I was removing large pieces of old tape used as labels on a metal cart and noticed they left a lot of adhesive behind. I then tried a little bit of acetone and got the same results. You can also remove duct tape residue using a washcloth and warm water.

Scrape off the adhesive. First i tried using goof off product and after letting it sit for a minute i was surprised to noticed the paint wiping away with the residue. The adhesive has hardened quite nicely and has been almost impossible to remove. When the duck tape was removed some of the adhesive remained on the aluminum siding.

Warm it up with a blow dryer and peel off what you can.
