Whether you have a wood windows or an aluminum window frame the steps to learn how to replace window screen mesh are the same.
If it doesn t use a screwdriver or the back of a hammer to help pry it out.
If the screen is torn or starting to warp installing a new window screen.
Begin replacing a torn window screen by removing the rubber spline that holds the screen in the frame with a pair of pliers.
Pop the screen frame out of your window.
Cut a new piece of screen an inch or so larger than the frame on all sides.
Position the new screen.
Using slot or philips head screwdriver pry the spline from the from the grooves around the edge of the frame.
For example for a frame that s 24 inches wide by 36 inches long cut the lineals to 22 1 2 inches and 34 1 2 inches.
Size the new material.
Insert the new spline.
Remove the old screen too remove the old screen use a putty knife or a flat screwdriver to remove the old screen spline from the frame.
Lay the screen down on a flat surface so you can work on it preferably a work table that you can screw stabilizers into.
Replace a window screen.
A spline roller will be really helpful for this.
Subtract 1 1 2 inches from the height and width to allow for screen corners.
Cut the replacement material to size.
How to replace a window screen.
The screen is held in place with a plastic cord spline that runs in a channel around the perimeter of the metal.
Beginning in a corner press the screen into the frame channel by pushing the spline down into it.
Make a cut across the roll with sufficient excess to clamp around the edges of the frame while you work.
Pry up the screen spline.
If there is any dirt or debris in the channel clear it out before continuing.
