Secure the rack to the vehicle. If you have side rails and crossbars the straps can be looped around those. Open the rear doors and run a ratchet strap over the top of the rack and through the rear seat area of the passenger compartment. Tie down the boards lengthwise and widthwise similar to how you d secure a mattress.

This step can be done for both the front and back strap of the canoe one for each roof rack bar. Then wrap this strap around both crossbars and tighten. Do this for both the front and back strap. In the case of a naked roof you should be looping the rope through the car through the doors not the windows and around the object on the roof and a towel or blanket should be used to protect the roof of your car from the object.
